Music FormatsMP3MP3 files have the extension ".mp3" and are available for download from many web sites. MP3 technology compresses sound sequences into a very small file, usually 1/12 of the original file size. WMAWMA aka Windows Media Audio is Microsoft's proprietary music file format. WMA files are smaller than MP3 files, but still retain decent level of sound quality. WAVA wave files have the extension ".wav". This music file format provides uncompressed audio data. This was originally invented by Microsoft and are still used widely. Some examples include various Windows sounds. The audio quality of wave files is excellent, but the file size is quite large. A song in wave format can easily take up to 20 MB of disk space or more. MIDIThe MIDI aka Musical Instrument Digital Interface file format was originally created for recording and playing music on digital synthesizers. Although the quality might not be as great as the rest, the one good thing about MIDI files are that they are very small in size. To add background music to your page, you will need to have the url to the music file (eg. mp3, wma, asx) from either another site, or from a web host.
The autostart attribute tells the song file how to begin. If you have this set to "true", the song file will begin playing automatically when the page loads. If you put in "false", the sound file will not start automatically and the visitor will have to start the song. The loop attribute tells the song how many times to play. If you have this set to "true" then it will play over and over again automatically. If you have it set to "false" it will play once and stop.
